Accreditation Criteria

Institutional accreditation assesses the capacity of an institution to assure its own quality, and expects it to produce evidence that it does so. The Criteria for Accreditation are the standards of quality by which HLC determines whether an institution merits accreditation or reaffirmation of accreditation.

Criterion set by HLC emphasizes planning, assessment of student learning, and a focus on persistence and completion. Institutions must provide in-depth evidence for each Criterion, deomnstrating the standards, processes, and will for quality assurance throughout its educational offerings.

Guiding Values

The Higher Learning Commission’s Criteria for Accreditation reflect a set of guiding values. HLC articulates these values to offer a better understanding of the Criteria and the intentions that underlie them.
