Shelly Carpenter has over 23 years of experience in the nursing field. She began her career at Children’s Mercy, where she specialized in Operating Room and Recovery Room nursing. Over the years, she has worked in various capacities, including peri-operative environments.
Shelly Carpenter has conducted research on using stakeholders as a foundational support for strong nursing curricula. Her work has been published in The Missouri Nurse Magazine, Nov 2025.
Shelly Carpenter is actively involved in the professional nursing community. Other involvements include volunteering at Children’s Mercy Hospital in their liaison program for children with special needs. She has worked as a school nurse during her career and has spent many summers providing care to campers during various camps.
Shelly Carpenter is responsible for courses such as Fundamentals of Nursing, Fundamentals and Assessment skills lab, and Fundamentals of Nursing practicum, providing first semester nursing students with foundational knowledge essential for academic and clinical success.
