Chelsea Shumate has over 16 years of experience in the nursing field. She began her career as a Certified Nurse Assistant at Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare in Clinton, Missouri. Over the years, she advanced her education, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Central Missouri in 2011 and a Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University in 2017. She has worked in various capacities, including Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, Critical Care, Primary Care, Urgent Care, Convenient Care, and Aesthetics. Chelsea Longoni currently practices as a Nurse Practitioner and received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, in May 2025.
Chelsea Shumate's research interests include well-being, healthcare worker burnout, and mindfulness. She has conducted significant research on decreasing burnout in clinical nurse practitioner students using mindfulness, contributing to a greater understanding of wellbeing and the likelihood of developing burnout in graduate nursing students. She has presented her findings at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Transform 2024 Conference.
Chelsea Shumate is actively involved in the professional nursing community. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). She also participates in the Association of Missouri Nurse Practitioners (AMNP), the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF), contributing to the advancement of the nursing profession.
Chelsea Shumate is the FNP Director and is responsible for courses such as Advanced Health Appraisal and FNP Primary Care Didactic and Clinical courses, providing students with a comprehensive education in advanced practice nursing.
