Center of Cybersecurity

The Center of Cybersecurity at the University of Central Missouri is a focal point for planning and implementing cybersecurity outreach activities to K-12, community colleges, and industry in the region and beyond. Some examples of outreach activities are:

  • MIC Cybersecurity program
  • Cybersecurity completion program at UCM-Lee’s Summit
  • Articulation agreements with community colleges
  • Organize cybersecurity camps for high schools teachers and/or students
  • Organize awareness activities for industry at Lee’s Summit campus during the national cybersecurity awareness month
  • Organize cybersecurity related workshops and/or conferences
  • Organize high school level and college level hacking competitions
  • Invite distinguished speakers from academia, industry, and government to raise awareness on important and topical issues in cybersecurity.

Mission

Mission of the Center

  • The center will promote education and research in cybersecurity and information assurance at UCM.
  • The center will foster sound internal practices for security of computer networks at UCM.
  • The center will promote collaboration with companies in the region.
  • The center will promote collaboration with local and state government to provide cybersecurity and information assurance solutions.

Units

The Center of Cybersecurity is housed in the College of Health, Science, and Technology. The center operations are managed by the Department of Computer Science and Cybersecurity. The center will promote interaction among the following units across the university to work towards the mission of the center.

Faculty

We have highly qualified and dedicated faculty members who have extensive experiences in research and/or industry. Eight of them received specialized information security training through the SANS Institute. In addition, eight faculty hold highly regarded cybersecurity certificates such as GIAC Certified Forensic Examiner (GCFE), Certified Penetration Tester (GPEN), Certified Web Applications Penetration Tester (GWAPT), Certified Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP), Certified Secure Java Developer (GSSP-Java), Certified Windows Security Administrator (GCWN), Certified Python Coder (GPYC), Certified Network Forensic Analyst (GNFA), Security Leadership Certificate (GSLC), Reverse Engineering Malware (GREM), and Cloud Security Automation (GCSA).
