Biography
Dr. Ellsworth is an assistant professor of social studies education whose research interest centers on history education, pedagogical content knowledge for teaching history, and teaching with primary sources.
She is the director for a teaching with primary sources grant program from the Library of Congress. She is currently a co-writer and co-editor for a book on teaching with primary sources expected to be released in Fall 2026. She also presents at national and state conferences focused on social studies education.
Prior to coming to UCM, Dr. Ellsworth was a high school social studies teacher for eight years, a research and teaching assistant at KU, an economic education specialist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, a K12 social studies curriculum coordinator, and an assistant professor of education. She currently serves as the president for the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) and chairs its 2025 annual conference in Washington, D.C..
